24 Jun PANDORA EMPLOYEES JAZZ UP THE LIVES OF AUSTIN MEMORY CARE RESIDENTS
Recently, Music Is Our Weapon has teamed up with Pandora Radio‘s Austin Office Employees to serve the local Alzheimer’s, dementia and cognitive impaired population. Pandora and MIOW combined forces and hosted a Music Discovery Outing at Brodie Ranch & Rehabilitation in Austin, Texas. Pandora employees took time away from their busy schedules to get to know a community full of residents and help curate their Personalized Pandora Radio Stations. The goal of this collaborative project is to provide Brodie Ranch and its residents with a sustainable music program. Supplying the community with new age technology in the form of tablets and streaming music will empower caregivers, family members, music therapists and volunteers with a way to connect with the residents on a daily basis.
“Being out in the field and seeing first-hand how impactful music is, was truly a fulfilling experience. We had the opportunity to sit down one-on-one with residents of Brodie Ranch and share music they were interested in. Watching the resident faces light up from music that brought back memories, and seeing their foot tap to the beat of songs that made them happy showed the power that music can unleash. We are excited to go back again and hang out with our new friends!” ~ Wesley-Anne Bock-Nelson (Pandora Media)
Pandora has committed to becoming a dedicated volunteer base to help MIOW with its Austin area efforts! We’re looking forward to developing this relationship and serving a multitude of Central Texas health care environments together as a team.
Researching the impact of listening to one’s favorite music on a daily basis is soon to come as we on-board more communities in the near future. We aspire to work with medical research groups to collect data from programs such as this in order to help us further understand the power of music as medicine.
TESTIMONIAL FROM DIRECTOR AT BRODIE RANCH AND REHAB – AUSTIN, TX
We use the music players daily at Brodie Ranch. Really they meet the needs of everyone – higher & lower functioning residents. This program has really helped meet the needs of our residents that are bed bound & unable to leave their rooms or bed. Our mail lady walks around delivering the mail with her music player on. Residents family members are able to sit with their loved one listening to the same music. Words can’t describe how powerful it is to watch someone crossed over to the afterlife listening to music, it makes the journey a calm & peaceful one. They are dancing with the Angels now!!
This program has brought life back into our residents souls! They’re not sitting around… Their life matters & their memories matter… And the power of music has made that happen here at The Ranch!!!
Big thanks to Music is Our Weapon for making the lives of our residents count!!” ~ Angela Elkins
