Telefon Tel Aviv was formed in 1999 by Charles Cooper and Joshua Eustis, with their first album released in the fall of 2001 to positive reviews. On January 22, 2009, Eustis announced on the group’s MySpace blog that Charles Cooper had died. On the heels of great tragedy, inspiration can strike and music can heal what was once broken. It’s one of the great quirks of life and a distinctly human condition to be able to find beauty in sadness. Music is a weapon. Especially when that weapon is a dark and nasty bass line.
